May 12, 2023 | West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) staff celebrated their colleagues and the year’s retirees at the 42nd Annual Staff Recognition Event on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Embassy Club West. The event was planned by the Staff Recognition Committee (SRC) and funded entirely by community donations.
Staff honored retirees with a clap-in and recognized additional staff for milestone years of service. Retirees were also invited to pick up lunches from Café V earlier in the day. Superintendent Dr. Matt Adams and SRC Chair Emily Mayfield addressed staff, along with Valley High School senior Raneen Rheem, who delivered a version of her commencement speech. Staff had the chance to win a wide variety of donated raffle prizes, including a personal day from Dr. Adams, and live music returned to the event this year thanks to Faculty Lounge, featuring WDMCS’ own David Maxwell and Anna Lee.
