Celebrate National School Lunch Week Oct. 12-15 (10/11/2021)
Oct. 11, 2021 | Thanks to the West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) Nutrition Services Department, all WDMCS students get the nutrition they need to learn, play, and grow while at school.
Please join WDMCS and the School Nutrition Association (SNA) as we celebrate National School Lunch Week from Oct. 12-15 this year. The “WILD About School Lunch” theme highlights the importance of a healthy school lunch to a student’s success both in and out of the classroom.
To thank students for their participation in the school lunch program, Nutrition Services updated the October menus to feature animal-themed treats and will host giveaways during National School Lunch Week. Make sure you eat with us this week — and thank your Nutrition Services workers during National School Lunch Week!
Every day during National School Lunch Week, Nutrition Services will randomly select students at all grade levels who ate school lunch the day before to pick out a prize.
Elementary students will choose between a free a la carte item and other prizes.
Secondary students will receive a ticket for a free a la carte item.
Recent research shows children are getting their healthiest meals at school, and thanks to a nationwide waiver, school lunch and breakfast are free for WDMCS families this school year. The USDA-funded program brings additional funds into the school district to support staff wages and benefits, purchase equipment for Nutrition Services, and provide nutritious foods to serve to our students. Participation in this program helps your school and the local economy.
