Join Valley Kicker’s Fundraiser for Stillbirth Prevention Program (09/14/23)
Sept. 14, 2023 | Valley High School senior and Tigers football kicker Rico Alvarenga-Servellon is turning kicks into something more this season. As part of the Every Kick Counts campaign, Alvarenga-Servellon is raising money for Count the Kicks, an evidence-based stillbirth prevention campaign from Iowa nonprofit organization Healthy Birth Day, Inc.
Alvarenga-Servellon was introduced to the program by his mentor, former Iowa Hawkeyes kicker Keith Duncan. Donors can pledge an amount per point or make a flat donation on pages for kickers at all levels, from Alvarenga-Servellon and other Iowa high schoolers to players in the NFL.
“You’re literally saving babies at the end of the day,” Alvarenga-Servellon said. “You’re saving a life just by wanting to pledge and watching us.” On his pledge page, Tigers #29 added, “This campaign is very important to me. Count the Kicks has saved babies in 40 states and 4 counties, and I am proud to help make a life-saving difference.”
