Valley Senior Helps Other WDMCS Students With Free Online Tutoring (09/02/21)

Sept. 2, 2021 | As part of her honors project, Valley High School senior Elaine Wang is introducing Connexions Tutoring, a free online tutoring resource intended for K-12 students, to fellow West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) students.

elaine wangConnexions Tutoring began in March 2020 at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The resource was founded by a group of Minnesota high school students, but branched out into other states for student leadership, including Iowa.

Wang, a prominent member of the service last year, is taking over this year as Connexions Tutoring’s executive director, she said.

The goal for Connexions Tutoring is to provide learning materials and instructions for students who may not have the means to access a tutor. All tutors through Connexions Tutoring are high school juniors and seniors who are passionate about teaching, Wang said.

According to its website, Connexions Tutoring “can help students struggling with homework as well as those seeking to get ahead of their classes. Tutoring sessions are up to one hour long. Students and parents can sign up by clicking on our Sign Up page and selecting a meeting time with their preferred tutor.”
