Valley Drama Presents 'Bright Star: School Edition' April 30, May 1-2 (04/27/21)

April 27, 2021 | Valley High School's Drama Family presents "Bright Star: School Edition," inspired by a real event and featuring the Tony®-nominated score by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell.

Directed by Valley Drama Director Stacy Hansen, Broadway’s "Bright Star" tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and 1940s. When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past—and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives.

Propelled by an ensemble of onstage musicians and dancers, the story unfolds as a rich tapestry of deep emotion, beautiful melodies, and powerfully moving performances. An uplifting theatrical journey that holds you tight in its grasp, "Bright Star" is as refreshingly genuine as it is daringly hopeful.

More than 85 Valley High School students and staff make up the cast and crew. A full cast and crew list can be found below.

Performances are at 7 p.m. on April 30 and May 1, and at 2 p.m. on May 2, in the Staplin Performing Arts Center, Valley High School, 3650 Woodland Avenue, West Des Moines. COVID-19 safety precautions will be in place. Seating will follow social distancing guidelines, and audiences will be capped at approximately 260 for each performance, roughly 23% of the Staplin Center's typical capacity. Face masks are required for all audience members, and all performers and crew will also wear face masks.

For those unable to attend the in-person performances, livestreams of the play will also be available. Tickets for both the in-person and livestream events cost $15 and can be purchased online at www.midwestix.com.
