Counseling Philosophy
Our school counseling program is a vital part of the education process. We provide a comprehensive and developmental setting in which students are a priority and the school counselor is an advocate. This entails the counseling program and counselors addressing and promoting academic, career, and social/emotional development of each and every student.
Confidentiality
The foundation of the student/counselor relationship is trust. Therefore, all information shared from the student to the counselor will remain confidential. The only exceptions to this are:
- if there is clear and present danger to the student or others
- if the student consents to it
- if this information is required by a court of law
Resources
We partner with Employee and Family Resources (EFR) for confidential and professional help when students or staff need more support. The EFR student assistance program can be contacted directly at 515-244-6090.
Valley Southwoods also partners with other providers that we can assist families in contacting when the need arises. Our partners will come to the school to meet with students so families don’t have to provide transportation and we can schedule when students have available time during the school day.
