Valley Collaborates with Chinese Sister School for Aug. 27 Commemorative Concert

The Valley High School Chamber Orchestra collaborated with 16 student musicians from Shijiazhuang Foreign Language School to perform a concert commemorating the 35th anniversary of the sister state relationship between Iowa and the Hebei province in China, Aug. 27, 2018.

At the concert, the vice governor of the Hebei province presented seven Iowans with Yanzhao Friendship Awards, the province’s highest prize recognizing the contributions of foreign experts.

About 60 other Chinese delegates attended the concert, along with State Rep. Zach Nunn.

The musicians from the sister school rehearsed with the Valley Chamber Orchestra on Aug. 26-27 and  attended afternoon classes at Valley on Monday, Aug. 27. Groups of students and teachers from the sister schools have been visiting each other through an exchange program since 2007.
