Valley High School student-athlete Madi Kubik has been named to the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team, which will compete in the 2018 NORCECA Women’s U20 Continental Championship June 18-23.

The 6-foot-1-inch outside hitter recorded 544 kills, 247 digs, 34 service aces, and 33 blocks this past season, leading the Tigers to the Class 5A state finals. A member of the U.S. Girls Youth National Team, Kubik was selected to the Elite All-State Team. She was also named the Class 5A Player of the Year and the Gatorade Iowa Volleyball Player of the Year, distinguishing her as Iowa’s best high school volleyball player. Kubik maintained a 3.68 GPA in the classroom and volunteered locally on behalf of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Meals From the Heartland, and youth volleyball camps. She will be a senior at Valley High School in fall 2018 and has verbally committed to the University of Nebraska.

Kubik will train with the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team in Colorado Springs, Colorado, June 8-15, before traveling to Aguascalientes, Mexico, for the 12-country championship tournament. The winning team automatically qualifies for the 2019 FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship.

“This year’s (Women’s Junior National Team) features twelve outstanding athletes from across the country,” U.S. Women’s Junior National Team Head Coach Keegan Cook told USA Volleyball. “Collectively, they form a team with a diverse range of skill, experience, physicality, and potential. These young women represent the bright future of USA Volleyball, and we are looking forward to seeing them compete together.”

The team will face Puerto Rico on June 18, Cuba on June 19, and Guatemala on June 20. The tournament quarterfinals will take place June 21, with semifinals on June 22, and final classification rounds on June 23.
