Homecoming 2017: Sept. 11-16

Homecoming 2017 theme image.Homecoming 2017 festivities start next week and include activities for our schools, WDMCS families, and the entire community. This year’s homecoming theme is “Valleywood.”

All proceeds from homecoming T-shirt sales, the carnival, and the $5 barbecue, as well as any free-will donations, will benefit the 2017 WDMCS Homecoming charity: Colleen’s Dream Foundation.

Community events include:

  • Monday, Sept. 11: Powder Puff Football, 7:30 p.m., Valley Stadium
  • Thursday, Sept. 14: Homecoming Parade, 5:45 p.m.; Tiger Carnival/$5 Barbecue, 6:15 p.m.
  • Friday, Sept. 15: Homecoming Football Game vs. Johnston, 7:30 p.m., Valley Stadium, fireworks after the game
    • Get tickets: Tickets will be on sale at the stadium gate starting at 4 p.m. Grades K-8: $4. Grades 9-12 and adults: $6.

Some school-specific events are:

  • Friday, Sept. 15: Junior High Homecoming Mixer, 5:30-7 p.m., at Valley Southwoods
  • Valley High School Dress-up Days (Download the Homecoming Poster)
    • Monday: Movie Night Monday (Dress up in your pajamas.)
    • Tuesday: Character Tuesday (Dress as your favorite TV/movie character.)
    • Wednesday: Walk of Fame Wednesday (Dress for the red carpet or as your favorite celebrity.)
    • Thursday: Throwback Thursday (Dress from a different decade.)
    • Friday: Lions, TIGERS, and Bears (Dress in your spirit gear.)
    • There will also be a homecoming assembly and a DJ at lunch at Valley on Friday, Sept. 15.
  • Saturday, Sept. 16: Homecoming Dance, 8-11 p.m., Iowa Events Center (Hy-Vee Hall)
    • Get a T-shirt: 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.. Sept. 7-8, outside the Valley cafeteria. T-shirts are $6.
    • Get tickets: 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sept. 13-15, outside the Valley cafeteria. Tickets are $10.

    • Attire: No jeans, hats, chains, canes, athletic wear/jerseys, or costumes.

Homecoming Court
The 2017 nominees for Homecoming King and Queen.Congratulations to the 2017 Homecoming Court! Homecoming Queen candidates are Emma Bohn, Bailey Burrell, Anna Correa, Caroline Smoldt, and Cassie Yardley. Homecoming King candidates are David Bone, Yuet Both, Kade Hatcher, JJ Kapur, and Habibu Moise.

Valley High School and Valley Southwoods Freshman High School students will watch candidate videos and vote during advisory on Tuesday, Sept. 12. Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during halftime of the Valley vs. Johnston Homecoming football game on Friday.
