The School/Community Relations Department supports West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) districtwide and school-specific communication.

What Does the School/Community Relations Department Oversee?

  • Media requests should contact the Director.
  • Internal and external communication with staff and families.
    • Weather cancellations/closings are communicated through voicemail, email, text, app, social media, website, and through local TV media. Other emergency notifications may be shared through similar outlets.
  • Managing the district brand, including oversight and approval of its use.
  • Oversee content creation for websites, social media, newsletters, podcasts, etc. 
  •  Support staff with training and use of Finalsite Mass Notifications and TalkingPoints tools. 
  • Liason with local law enforcement during crisis management.
