Parent/Guardian Groups
Family Advocacy Group
West Des Moines Community Schools values the role of families in their child's education. The district has an advocacy group where members act as a link between families of gifted/talented students and the Gifted/Talented (GT) leadership. The group aims to connect families of GT students, share information about the district's GT programs, and raise awareness of the needs of GT students and families in the community.
The group meets several times a year to discuss the philosophy and goals of the district's GT program and to gather input from families. The GT leadership understands the importance of families in a child's success, and the GT program will continue to support a partnership among staff, students, and families.
GT Parent Partnership
Our parent/guardian-run meetings are open to all interested parents and staff.
Mission: to create avenues for support, networking, information, and advocacy for high-ability learners and their families.
We will provide:
- a forum where parents can learn more about gifted education so as to better advocate and parent their children.
- a safe place to find support from one another and to network for ideas.
- a way to share ideas so that building representatives can take them back to our district advisory group meetings to inspire changes for our district’s GT education program.
- inspiration for parents to partner with the district to create opportunities/enhancements for high-ability students.
