Non-Discrimination and Title IX

West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, religion, creed, age (for employment), marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, and socioeconomic status in its educational programs and its employment practices.

About Title IX

WDMCS follows Title IX rules to prevent and address sexual harassment. Sexual harassment is considered a form of sex discrimination and is against the laws that prohibit such discrimination. WDMCS works to create a learning environment free from sexual harassment.

It's against WDMCS board policy for staff members to sexually harass students or for students to sexually harass each other. If you have concerns about sexual harassment:

  • For Students: If you believe someone has been sexually harassed in a way that breaks Title IX rules, contact the Title IX Coordinator, Dr. Nora E. Ryan.
  • For Employees: Employees who feel they have been sexually harassed should report it to Human Resources.

WDMCS doesn't allow discrimination or harassment based on sex in its programs or activities, according to Board Policy 502.03. If you think someone has been discriminated against based on their sex, violating Title IX, you can file a formal complaint.
