  • Happy February from the WDMCS Student Scholarship Fund!

    It’s time to get those applications filled out and we have an incredible number of scholarships with the following criteria: Are you planning to go into education? Thinking of going into a 2-year or tech program? Did you attend Phenix or another West Des Moines elementary? Planning to study business at Iowa State? How about studying Business at Iowa Tippee College of Business? Maybe you are planning to study accounting, science, or engineering. There are scholarship opportunities if you have been active in Best Buddies, community service, vocal music, debate and Baker’s Dozen. Maybe you were planning to study math or go to school out of state. There are undesignated scholarships available too – go online to the Valley Counseling Scholarship page, search for the scholarship under February deadlines, fill out your application and print it off for Mrs. Sinram. Check out our Facebook page – WDM Student Scholarship Fund to get up-to-date information on scholarships available. The deadline for scholarship applications is February 24th and no late applications will be accepted. The WDMCS Student Scholarship Fund is a locally operated, nonprofit organization that is there for you - don’t leave money on the table. Please apply now!

    Get your tickets for the 2023 Sweetheart Shows at Two nights of great entertainment by the talented Valley High School choir students at the PAC, Feb 7 & 9 at 7pm. You don't want to miss it - with performances including both show choirs, jazz choirs, ensembles and solos!
    Check out $2300 worth of raffle items at Great items including Senior Photo Sessions, DOZENS of restaurant gift cards (Flemings, Irina's, Bravo, Chick-Fil-A,  FireCreek, PF Changs and more), wine tastings, golf outings, WDM Pool Passes for summer 2023, Target and MUCH MORE!     The After Prom Event still needs volunteers:

    Prom / After Prom is April 15
    Open to all Junior & Senior students and a guest
    This event is put on by parent volunteers. Last year's committee will be on hand to help, but new volunteers are needed ASAP. It is paid for by community and parent donations.

  • JUNIORS: 2022-2023 Coolidge Scholarship deadline approaching

    The Coolidge Scholarship is a full-ride, four-year, merit scholarship that may be used by recipients for undergraduate study at any accredited college or university in the United States.

    Any high school junior who plans to enroll in college in the fall of 2024 and is an American citizen or legal permanent resident is eligible to apply.

    Academic excellence is the primary criterion considered, with an interest in public policy and an appreciation of the values President Coolidge championed. Successful candidates will also demonstrate humility and have a record of genuine service to their communities.

  • ICAN Succeed Virtual College Fair Tomorrow!

    Wednesday, February 1 from 5:30-8pm

    The Succeed Virtual College Fair will host colleges and universities in three, 45-minute sessions. Each session will consist of blocks of colleges. During each block, each college will provide students with an overview of their campus offerings. Students can ask questions throughout the 45-minute session.

    Students can register for one, two, or all three sessions. They simply review the blocks of colleges, and select the block and time they wish to join.

    Once they are registered, they'll receive updates and reminders on how to access the event.

    WDMCS Student Scholarship Fund + Emily Anne Weikert Memorial Scholarship * This scholarship honors the memory of Emily Weikert who graduated from Valley in 2005, and Iowa State College of Business in 2009 with honors. It will be awarded to a Valley High School senior intending to study business at Iowa State.  This scholarship is renewable for up to 4 years with criteria and is worth up to $10,000! Please see the Valley Counseling Scholarship page for the Emily Weikert Memorial Scholarship application, to be completed along with the general Student Scholarship Fund application.

  • Valley Battle of the Books Team

    Valley Battle of the Books Team

    Do you like to read? Do you like friendly competition? Join Valley's Iowa High School Battle of the Books team!

    As a team, we'll collectively read and discuss the 28 books on the list (the titles span genres and include fantasy, fiction, YA, historical fiction, and nonfiction). A multiple choice qualifying test will be administered at Valley the last week of March. The top 16 teams in the state will move on to the in-person Grand Battle in Marshalltown on April 26th. All teams who participate in this year's Battle of the Books will have the chance to meet Eric Gansworth, author of Apple: Skin to the Core.

    Teams can be no larger than 6 members, but we can register multiple teams. If you're interested in joining a team, please fill out this form by February 15th. If you have questions, see Ms. Moehlis in room 1602 or email her at
