  • Need a Job? Respite Connection is Hiring!

    Respite Connection 
    There is a HUGE need right now for respite care. Hundreds of Iowa families are on the waitlist for someone to stop by and help care for loved ones with disabilities... giving them a 'respite'... Whether that's playing a game, walking to the park or just a conversation!
    This is a wonderful part-time opportunity for a busy 16-18-year-old who only has an hour or two a week, wants to give back to their community, and get paid! Also great for anyone looking for a part-time job with a flexible schedule.
    Requirements: A kind heart and patience. Training provided.

  • PSAT Registration is Open!

    Students wanting to take the PSAT/NMSQT test on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 may sign up. This test is the qualifier for juniors wanting to be considered for National Merit Scholarships. Sophomores who want to take this test for practice, may also sign up.
    To sign up for the test, parents/guardians may purchase the test through the district's online payment system. The 22-23 PSAT will be listed as a School Item available for purchase. Add the PSAT to the cart, then checkout. To sign up, use this link:
    The test will be given at 8am on test day, at the West Des Moines Christian Church (4501 Mills Civic Parkway, West Des Moines). 
    The deadline to sign up is Friday, October 7, 2022.

  • MercyOne Positions for High School Students

    Many jobs are available at MercyOne in Des Moines. Students interested in roles should go to and select Des Moines

    CNA in the Clinics CNA is required; assist with clerical duties as well as patient care in the Clinic setting

    Receptionist in the Clinics Checking in patients and answering phones appropriately, as well as partnering with the clinical care teams for needs around the clinic

    Patient Companion Sits with patients as needed to ensure their safety (psychiatric patients, risks of elopement (leaving), suicidal patients, etc.)

    Patient Care Assistant CNA in the hospital setting; CNA is required unless someone has completed their internal training program. Takes care of patients in partnership with an RN

    Radiology Aide Assisting in the imaging department with clerical needs as well as working with patients and family members to direct them to areas or help transport them to an area or their next procedure or image

    Barista (Starbucks)

    Environmental Services Associate Working to ensure patient care or clinical areas are cleaned and sanitized for visitors and staff

    Laundry/Linen Aide
    Food Service Associate Working either tray line preparing meals for the floor and taking them up to patients, or checking visitors and staff out at the check out area
    Department Support Assistant Receptionist on the patient floors. Working with staff and visitors to answer phones, direct visitors, stock shelves, and consult with clinical staff including physicians
    Department Support Assistant (Imaging) Similar to the above
    Emergency Medical Technician Ambulance based. Requirements: EMT certification and 18 years of age. Transporting patients and partnering with a paramedic on patient care needs. 
    Monitor Tech Care Assistant Monitors patients through a camera on site to ensure safety (making sure they do not fall out of bed, hurt themselves, etc.)
    Pharmacy Tech in Training Working in our Pharmacy department as a tech and learning first hand about the department. Someone in this role will need to be employed for one year in order to qualify for the state certificate which they help facilitate
    Sterile Processing Tech Working in the Operating Room setting to clean instruments and package them for surgery

  • Attention Male and Female Cross Country Seniors!

    Now is the time to apply for the VandeVenter Family Memorial Scholarship.

    * In memory of Valley student Carson VandeVenter and his love of running and cross country
    * $1,000 scholarships awarded to one boy and one girl
    * Must be an active member of the VHS Cross Country Team
    * Deadline is October 15th. Turn application into Mrs. Maly in the Counseling Center

  • Girls Wrestling Meeting

    Starting in the 2022-2023 season, girls' wrestling will be a sanctioned sport by the IGHSAU. This means girls compete against other girls. NOT against boys! Girls wrestling is currently the fastest growing sport in the USA! Wrestling is a sport that supports everyBODY and will help you gain confidence, grit, physical shape, and mental toughness.
