Interested in Dual Language Spanish Immersion?
Families can express interest in the program during online WDMCS enrollment. Students are selected based on enrollment date and home language (maintaining 50% of the class as native Spanish speakers and 50% from other language backgrounds). A waiting list is maintained. Enrollment decisions will be in the following priority order:
- Students within the Western Hills school boundaries.
- Students with siblings already in the program.
- All other students registering with the WDMCS.
Initial decisions about program placement will be made beginning in January. Students and families selected for the program will be contacted to confirm their placement.

Overview
The West Des Moines Community Schools’ Dual Language Program:
- has a strong, standards-based curriculum,
- promotes high academic achievement in both English and Spanish, and
- is an environment that embraces diversity and strives for excellence.
We believe all students come to school with a set of unique experiences and skills that when shared with others, enrich the social, cultural, and educational environments of the classroom and school. It is our mission to teach our students the knowledge, skills, and strategies needed to become productive and responsible citizens.
The Dual Language Spanish Immersion program offers 50/50 instruction, meaning students learn in English half the time and Spanish half the time. About half of the students are native Spanish speakers, and half come from other language backgrounds.

La Programa de Doble Lengua del Distrito Escolar de la Comunidad de West Des Moines es:

Creemos que todos los estudiantes llegan a la escuela con un conjunto de experiencias y habilidades únicas que, cuando se comparten con otros, enriquecen los entornos sociales, culturales y educativos del salón de clases y la escuela. Nuestra misión es enseñarles a nuestros estudiantes el conocimiento, las habilidades y las estrategias necesarias para convertirse en ciudadanos productivos y responsables.
Aproximadamente la mitad de los estudiantes provienen de entornos españoles y la mitad de entornos de inglés y otros idiomas. Los estudiantes pasan la mitad de su día aprendiendo contenido en español y la otra mitad aprendiendo en inglés.
