    Shelly Pospeshil

    Clive Learning Academy Community,

Welcome to the 2023-24 school year! It is a great honor to begin my fourth year serving as the principal at Clive Learning Academy. I will continue to work diligently to ensure a safe, engaging, and rigorous learning environment for your student(s). One that is focused on supporting each student to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. I believe in the importance of collaborating with our Clive community (students, parents, teachers, support staff, and administration) to ensure the success and growth of each student.

This year we will be focusing on creating a caring environment that fosters a strong sense of belonging for our students, families, and staff. John Hattie describes belonging as the extent that individuals feel personally accepted, respected, included, and supported by others. Research suggests that when there is an increased sense of belonging, individuals perform at higher levels, are committed to achieving their goals, and are more engaged in the organization. We have been working to identify purposeful tasks and experiences to foster and increase a sense of belonging for the Clive community.

Staff will soon be back in the building and working to create welcoming learning environments to create a classroom culture that supports a sense of belonging. When we all do our part to create trusting and meaningful relationships, it allows us to strengthen our sense of belonging and to create a culture of learning in which we all succeed. We strive to support students in developing the essential skills and integrity to communicate, collaborate, and solve problems as confident citizens who embrace a diverse and challenging world.

As the mom of a 19 year-old son and a 17 year-old daughter, I understand all of the hopes and dreams that you have for your students. These hopes and dreams necessitate our collaboration this year as we support each student in growing academically, socially, and emotionally.

    • PBIS at Clive

Our school is participating in an important district initiative, Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS). The PBIS process is used to focus on improving our school’s ability to teach and support positive behavior for all students.

Clive Learning Academy has developed a unified set of expectations for behavior in our school, commonly referred to as Clive Pride. Clive Pride stands for students showing our set of expectations of being Respectful, Responsible, Safe, and Caring every day, in all areas of our school.

Students are routinely taught, modeled, and provided with examples of common area expectations, along with other areas of our building (cafeteria, hallways, arrival, dismissal, restrooms).

PBIS is an approach to create a safe and productive learning environment where all can thrive. We know that students can only meet our expectations if they know what the expectations are and have frequent opportunities to practice them. Modeling expectations is an important part of the PBIS process.
