PBIS at Westridge

  • Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is the proactive approach we use at Westridge Elementary to improve school safety and promote positive behavior. Common language and clearly taught expectations are foundational to a safe community, and PBIS serves as our schoolwide system to teach and reinforce positive behavior.

During the first few weeks of school, our daily morning meetings will focus on teaching our PBIS expectations as well as the social and emotional skills that contribute to a positive learningcommunity. Students will learn the behavior expectations in different areas throughout the school, including in class, at lunch and recess, and during dismissal. At Westridge, we teach and describe our expectations as The Westridge Way.

    Leading: BE Respectful
    Learning: BE Responsible
    Caring: BE Safe

    Student Leadership: Leader in Me

Each student is a leader in their own way! At Westridge, we believe that every student we serve possesses leadership skills and focus on eight different leadership habits from The Leader in Me to help students learn to be an effective leader and
    collaborate with others.

The 8 Habits are integrated into our instruction and connect to our schoolwide PBIS approach, Guidance curriculum, and Essential Life Skills. Students will have opportunities to set goals and track their progress, collaborate with other students and adults, celebrate their learning, and serve as classroom or school leaders.

    The 8 Habits

    1. Be Proactive
    2. Begin with the End in Mind
    3. Put First Things First
    4. Think Win-Win
    5. Seek First to Understand,
    6. Then be Understood
    7. Synergize
    8. Sharpen the Saw
    9. Find Your Voice
