School Meal Information

  • Elementary

    • Breakfast
      • Breakfast is served in the cafeteria from 30 minutes before the start of the school day until the first bell.
      • Students can choose the hot breakfast option of the day or choose from cereal and yogurt or a prepackaged muffin along with fruit/fruit juice and milk.
      • After the bell, elementary students can check into the office and get a breakfast pass for a grab-and-go cold breakfast.

    • Lunch
      • Students can choose between a hot lunch option (changes daily), a cold lunch option, and a yogurt/granola and string cheese entree kit. 
        • Students can also choose a hot vegetable, cold fruits and vegetables, and their choice of milk (skim, skim chocolate, or 1%).
        • All items will be individually packaged, and students will pick the meal they would like as they go through the line (no preordering).
      • To receive the meal free of charge, students must select at least one fruit or vegetable and two other items.
        • Milk purchased individually is 50 cents per carton. 
      • Students bringing lunch from home can supplement their meal with fruits, veggies, and milk (at least three items) from the cafeteria line.

    Secondary

    • Breakfast
      • Breakfast is served in the cafeteria from 30 minutes before the start of the school day until the first bell.

      • Check with your school's cafeteria or office for more information about after-the-bell breakfast options.

    • Lunch
      • Students will have several options available each day to build a custom lunch in our cafeteria lines. All food items will be individually packaged or wrapped.
        • Students will pick the meal they would like as they go through the line (no preordering).
      • To receive the meal free of charge, students must select at least one fruit or vegetable and two other items.
        • Milk purchased individually is 50 cents per carton. 
      • Students bringing lunch from home can supplement their meal with fruits, veggies, and milk (at least three items) from the cafeteria line.

Meal Pick-Up for Online Learners

  • Meal pick-up will be available for online learners on Wednesdays at Valley High School. Meal boxes will include five days of breakfast and lunch. 

    • Pick-Up Location: Valley High School, 3650 Woodland Ave., West Des Moines
    • Pick-Up Times: 8:30-9 a.m. on Wednesdays

    To pick up meals:

    • Enter the parking lot on 39th Street and follow signs to the pick-up door. 
    • Go to the indoor pick-up kiosk and show a WDMCS student ID number (or have a cashier look it up). 
      • All children ages 1-18 are eligible to participate as long as they are not receiving meals at school or through another USDA-funded program. 
      • Parent/guardians can pick up meals on behalf of students. 
      • For students not enrolled in WDMCS, provide the child's name and school of attendance or indicate that the child is not yet in school.
