The West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) Board of Education will hold a special meeting to appoint a new Board member at 7 p.m. in the Community Room on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at the Learning Resource Center, 3550 Mills Civic Parkway, West Des Moines.

The meeting is open to the public and will be livestreamed on the WDMCS YouTube Channel

Meeting details

Six finalists will answer a series of questions from the current Board of Education. Questions were compiled by the Board and include select questions submitted by community members. 

Following the presentations, the Board will deliberate and appoint its newest member. The appointed applicant will then take the oath of office.

The appointed candidate will serve the remainder of the term, which expires Nov. 22, 2027.

Why there’s a board vacancy

Fannette Elliott, a member of the West Des Moines Community Schools Board of Education since 2021, resigned from the Board on March 23, 2026 following her election to the West Des Moines City Council.
