The West Des Moines Community Schools Board of Education elected Elizabeth Larson (pictured, right) as president and Jill Caton Johnson, Ph.D., as vice president at its organizational meeting Monday, Nov. 24. 

Larson and Caton Johnson will serve one-year terms in their respective roles. Larson, who was elected to the School Board in 2023, previously served as vice president under past president Anadelia Morgan. This is Caton Johnson’s third term after being elected to the Board in 2015, serving as Board president in 2018 and vice president in 2017. 

In addition to electing officers, the Board appointed representatives to state and district advisory groups and committees. These appointments include:

  • Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB): Fannette Elliott (Lila Starr is alternate)
  • School Community Network (SCN): Lila Starr and Fannette Elliott
  • West Des Moines Community Schools Foundation: Mike Andreski, Ph.D., and Fannette Elliott
  • Career and Technical Education (CTE) Advisory: Jeff Hicks and Mike Andreski
  • School Improvement Advisory Committee (SIAC): Jill Caton Johnson and Anadelia Morgan

The Board also appointed representatives to the superintendent’s committees. These appointments include:

  • Human Resources Advisory: Lila Starr, Mike Andreski, and Fannette Elliott
  • Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) Advisory: Jill Caton Johnson, Lila Starr, and Anadelia Morgan
  • Board Policy: Fannette Elliott, Jeff Hicks, and Anadelia Morgan
  • Facilities and Finance (F&F): Jeff Hicks, Mike Andreski, and Jill Caton Johnson

The WDMCS Board of Education is a group of seven individuals elected by the community to serve and make decisions for the school district. They don't get paid for their service and are elected for four-year terms. The Board holds regular business meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of the month unless otherwise noted.
