Zac Sinram, current associate principal and activities director at Indian Hills Junior High, has been named the next director of athletics and activities at Valley High School. Sinram will take over for Brad Rose, who is set to retire after a decorated 16-year career at Valley.

The West Des Moines Community Schools Board of Education formally approved Sinram’s appointment at its regular meeting Monday, Feb. 10.

An experienced administrator, Sinram boasts nearly two decades of experience at West Des Moines Community Schools. He has spent the last 12 years at Indian Hills, where he boosted extracurricular and co-curricular involvement, expanded fundraising for athletics and activities, and improved the coaching staff.

“Zac Sinram is a leader who sees the big picture,” one reference shared. “He thinks creatively while taking in the whole system, knows how to reach out and collaborate with others, uses clear and consistent communication, and knows how to get things done.”

Sinram began his career as a social studies and special education teacher at Valley Southwoods Freshman High School. He also has 10-plus years of coaching experience, serving as an assistant in baseball and basketball at Valley. Sinram earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Northern Iowa and his master’s degree from the University of Iowa.

“I’m honored for the opportunity to serve such a talented group of staff and students at Valley,” Sinram said. “I look forward to building on the great things we accomplished at Indian Hills.”

As the director of athletics and activities, Sinram will be responsible for the development, coordination, supervision and evaluation of all high school athletic programs, activities, clubs, and interscholastic programs.

Since Rose came to Valley in 2009, Tiger athletics has won 29 state team championships, celebrated five State of Iowa All-Sports Trophies, and crowned seven Gatorade State Players of the Year. In 2017, Rose was named Athletic Director of the Year by the Iowa High School Athletic Directors Association (IHSADA).

Activities also thrived under Rose’s leadership. Valley won championships and earned state and national recognition in speech and debate, mock trial, show choir, orchestra, jazz band, marching band, and choir.

Rose also made his mark on the infrastructure at Valley, leading improvements at every athletics and fine arts facility in his first 10 years.

“Brad has been an invaluable member of West Des Moines Community Schools for the past 16 years and has had a profound impact on our programs,” Superintendent Matt Adams said. “He fostered a culture of sportsmanship, teamwork, and achievement, and consistently put the best interests of our students first. We are incredibly grateful for his contributions.”

During his tenure, Rose sat on the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA)  Board of Directors, twice served as Central Iowa Metropolitan League (CIML) President, and is a past member of the IHSADA Executive Board. In his current role with the IHSADA, Rose plans and delivers professional development opportunities for athletics and activities directors throughout Iowa.

“I am so proud of the hard work, dedication, and accomplishments of our staff over the last 16 years,” Brad said. “As a staff member and parent in the district, I care deeply about the school and wish continued success for Valley High School and Zac Sinram. I’ll always be a Tiger.”

The director of athletics and activities transition will take place July 1, 2025.
