Tiger Cubs Preschool – the high-quality preschool program offered by West Des Moines Community Schools – is now enrolling students for the 2026-27 school year. Families with young learners are invited to join a program where every child belongs — and every future begins.

The basics: The program is available at no cost to families and is offered at all eight WDMCS elementary buildings. The program serves 4-year-olds and students ages 3-5 with special needs who have an IEP. A half-day program, Tiger Cubs meets on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

About Tiger Cubs: Tiger Cubs Preschool is designed to guide children through their most foundational years and put them on the path to future success. Studies consistently show that children who attend high-quality preschool enter kindergarten with higher foundational skills than those who don’t.

Students in Tiger Cubs Preschool benefit from:

  • Expert instruction: Our dual-licensed teachers are certified in both Early Childhood and Special Education. Regular professional development ensures every adult in the classroom is equipped with the newest tools to adapt lessons to your child’s unique pace.
  • Personal attention: Small class sizes of no more than 18 students for every 3-4 adults ensures every child gets the individual support they deserve. Each lesson is adapted to meet a child’s specific strengths and needs.
  • Strong foundation: Using a data-driven, research-based curriculum, the program serves as a launchpad for robust growth and lifetime of learning.

Now offering wrap-around childcare: New for the 2026-27 school year, Tiger Cubs preschoolers can sign up for Cub Care, a fee-based, wrap-around childcare option for families. The program will operate out of Clive Learning Academy and is open to all WDMCS families. Midday transportation is available for participating students.
