Iowa National Guard Lieutenant Colonel and WDMCS instructional coach Wesley Hall nominated Superintendent Dr. Matt Adams, Walnut Creek Campus Principal Dr. Kim Davis, and secondary curriculum director Shane Scott for the award for their support of employees who are also military service members.
“My 32-year military career would not have been possible without the support of the West Des Moines Community School District leadership team,” Hall said. “They go above and beyond the call to accommodate my military obligations.”
An employee serving in the National Guard or Reserve, or a spouse of a Guard or Reserve member, may nominate individual supervisors for support provided directly to the nominating Service member and their family. The awards reflect support through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed.
“Supportive employers like West Des Moines Community Schools are vital to the success of our mission and the defense of this nation,” said Becky Coady, Iowa ESGR state chair. “Our Guard and Reserve members could not perform their military duty without knowing their civilian employers support them 100%.”
ESGR Awards are issued through the Department of Defense and are presented to recipients by ESGR volunteers. Volunteer Jim Freese presented the award to Adams, Davis, and Scott on Dec. 11.
