Legacy maker. Champion for all. Servant hearted.

These were just some of the phrases used to describe the three newest members of the Valley High School Hall of Honor, inducted at a ceremony Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Staplin Performing Arts Center.

Jana Edwards, Steve Mohr, and Pam Wymer – all current or former Valley High School staff members – made up the Hall of Honor Class of 2025. The inductees gathered with family, friends, school administrators, and board of education members to celebrate the honor.

"For generations, Valley High School has been home to remarkable people who embody excellence, leadership and service,” said Dr. Shane Christensen, principal at Valley High School. “The Hall of Honor stands as a tribute to those who have not only achieved personal success, but have also made an impactful contribution to our community and beyond. It is a privilege to celebrate these distinguished honorees, and we are proud to call them Valley Tigers.”

This marks the second year the Hall of Honor ceremony was included in the homecoming week festivities. In addition to the ceremony, inductees participated in the homecoming parade and were recognized at the homecoming football game.

The Valley High School Hall of Honor was created in 2018 to celebrate special former students, teachers and community leaders. They are role models for students at West Des Moines Community Schools because of their achievements, leadership and good character.

Jana Edwards – Current Staff Inductee
Described in her nomination as a “champion for all,” Edwards is in her 13th year as a member of the math department at Valley. She teaches AP Calculus and AP Statistics, but her impact goes beyond the traditional classroom. Edwards is the faculty sponsor for the National Honor Society and Kures 4 Kids, a student-group that supports children with cancer. She also mentors students completing their scholars and honors projects each year, helping open doors to some of the country's top colleges and universities. As part of her work with the NHS, Edwards helps put on a successful annual blood drive.

Steve Mohr – Former Staff Inductee
Described in his nomination as a “legacy maker,” Mohr dedicated more than 30 years to West Des Moines Community Schools as a physical education teacher, driver’s education teacher, and coach. As a baseball coach, Mohr built a hall of fame career that included three state championships, six state tournament appearances, and 631 career wins. His 1995 team won the program’s first state championship in 40 years before winning back-to-back championships in 2003 and 2004. Mohr’s investment in the development of students went beyond the classroom and the diamond. He served as a mentor through the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and later rejoined the district as a staff member in the Home School Assistance Program.

Pam Wymer – Former Staff Inductee
Described in her nomination as “servant hearted,” Wymer served West Des Moines Community Schools for four decades in the roles of counseling office secretary and principal’s secretary. She was also a regular at Tiger athletic events, taking tickets and working the concession stand. No matter her capacity, Wymer warmed visitors and staff with her signature friendly demeanor. Her relationships transcended the school. Her two children graduated from Valley and her daughter currently teaches in the district.
