WDMCS families and community members are invited to attend the third annual WDMCS Student Voice Symposium — Activating My Power: Connect, Lead, and Grow — on Saturday, March 28, at Valley High School. In past years, the symposium has been for students only.

  • This year, we invite you to join us for the afternoon.

Student input is integral to the Student Voice Symposium. It’s in the name for a reason — from the first symposium in 2024, empowering and lifting student voices was a focus of the event. The symposium co-creates space for students to be heard, experience community, exercise their voice, and co-learn with peers from central Iowa. Last year, students requested that their parents/guardians and community be invited to co-learn and experience the day with them. We love that students want their families to spend time learning and growing together. So:

  • This invitation comes from the students.

You’ll enjoy lunch with your students and sessions tailored to parents/guardians and other caring adults. Then you’ll take in a powerful keynote address from Audrey Kennis, director of human services for the City of West Des Moines, and our closing session.

  • Ms. Kennis is an advocate, transformative leader, lifelong learner, and a partner of West Des Moines Community Schools.

We hope you can join us for this opportunity to better connect with your students, share in what they experience at school, and watch them activate their power as leaders.
