Fannette Elliott, a member of the West Des Moines Community Schools Board of Education since 2021, resigned from the Board on March 23, 2026 following her election to the West Des Moines City Council. Elliott was elected to the City Council in a runoff election March 17.  

The Board will fill Elliott’s vacancy by appointment. The appointed candidate will serve the remainder of the term, which expires Nov. 22, 2027. 

Candidates interested in interviewing for the vacancy must contact Board Secretary Katie Scheller (515-633-5025 | schellerk@wdmcs.org) to complete an interest form by April 13.

  • April 16: Special Board meeting to appoint new member

Board of Education Special Meeting

The April 16 meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Learning Resource Center, 3550 Mills Civic Parkway in West Des Moines. The meeting will be livestreamed on the WDMCS YouTube page.
