Seal of Biliteracy

Thirty-four West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) seniors earned the Iowa Seal of Biliteracy in 2026, demonstrating proficiency in two or more languages, one of which is English. The students will be recognized during Senior Honors Night May 20 and during their graduation ceremony, with the Seal noted on their diploma and official transcript. Six more WDMCS students earned the Seal of Biliteracy in 2026 than in 2025.

Students prove their proficiency in English and additional languages through various assessments. The Seal of Biliteracy not only recognizes the value of language diversity and cultural identity but prepares students with 21st-century skills that will benefit them as they begin to explore their futures after high school. The Seal also provides recognition and evidence for students’ language proficiencies and values language as an asset for students, professionals, and citizens.
