On November 4, 2025, West Des Moines Community Schools is asking voters to consider a $135 million general obligation bond to:
- Enhance student learning
- Expand access to extracurricular and co-curricular activities, and
- Attract and retain students and staff.

Bond Quick Facts
- Election day is Nov. 4. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- This bond referendum is part of the Polk County City/School Election.
- In order to pass, the bond referendum requires a 60% super majority.
- Early voting at the Polk County Election Office (2309 Euclid Ave. in Des Moines) runs Oct. 15-Nov. 3. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Last day to submit an absentee ballot request is Oct. 20.

Project Details
The projects included in this bond referendum are categorized into two pillars: Foundation and Access.
Pillar I: Foundation
Modernize and update all district buildings with a focus on instructional spaces. This includes:
- Improving the physical learning environment—everything from paint and furniture to lighting and air quality—to enhance student learning
- Updating district playgrounds
- Reconfiguring the main entrance at Valley High School for enhanced safety and security
PROJECTED COST: $106 million

Pillar II: Access
Upgrade existing and construct new facilities to expand access to WDMCS extracurricular and co-curricular programs. This includes:
- Constructing a new $35 million multipurpose activities facility on district-owned land south of the West Des Moines Public Library
- Constructing a new mid-sized performing arts center for district use at Indian Hills Junior High
- Constructing a new band and equipment storage facility at Valley Stadium
- Upgrading the track and field facility at Valley Southwoods Freshman High School
- Upgrading technology and equipment at Valley High School's Staplin Performing Arts Center
PROJECTED COST: $55 million
