Make a Difference for Students and Our Community
The employees, citizens, and leaders of tomorrow are in classrooms today. In fact, your future employee, co-worker, or even CEO may still be in school.
It is the mission of the West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) to educate responsible lifelong learners so that each student possesses the skills, knowledge, creativity, sense of self-worth, and values necessary to thrive in and contribute to a diverse and changing world.
This often requires innovation.
Providing engaging and rigorous instruction through project-based learning in a collaborative culture and fully integrated technology, the WDMCS Project-Based Learning Network enables students to gain the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in life, college, and the careers of tomorrow. These students are engaged in their learning, are prepared for college when they graduate, and are more likely to enter STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields than the average high school graduate, making the WDMCS Project-Based Learning Network an important tool for economic development in our community.
We invite our business, civic, and non-profit partners to engage with us in offering this new avenue for students and making a difference in our local economy, workforce, and community.
Provide Financial Support
WDMCS Project-Based Learning Network schools have a powerful return on investment because our learners will become community employees, citizens, and leaders in the years to come. As a financial partner, you will make a difference in the lives of many young learners.
We have facility updates, furnishing needs, and classroom technology upgrades that could use your support, which helps us to realize our vision for our learners. Any contribution you provide, whether it be resources, talent, or time, will be appreciated.
What will you receive as a financial supporter?
- Quarterly reports on our data, projects, and more
- Invitation to future business partner meetings
- Satisfaction of knowing that you are contributing to the economic growth of our metro area
Sponsor a Project
Real community-based projects are the centerpiece of the Project-Based Learning Network model. Learning takes place within the context of a larger problem or project. In this way, learning serves a purpose that is tangible to our students. They are not just learning for the sake of learning; they are learning as a way to reach real-world goals.
As an active partner in an ongoing relationship with our group of learners, your guidance and advice will help them reach their goals.
What are some ways you can help our learners as a project sponsor?
- Help teacher-facilitators to brainstorm project ideas
- Write entry documents to introduce new projects
- Participate in entry events at our schools
- Host learners on a field trip at your place of business
- Sit on a panel of experts for student presentations
- Help teacher-facilitators establish project evaluation criteria
- Provide opportunities outside of school such as internships, job shadows, or tours.
