  • West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) Nutrition Services makes sure our students get the nutrition they need to learn, play, and grow during the school day. Our focus is on children's health and well-being. Classroom achievement starts with proper nutrition and a balanced meal.

School Meal Information

  • Elementary

    • Breakfast
      • Breakfast is served in the cafeteria from 30 minutes before the start of the school day until the first bell.
      • Students can choose the hot breakfast option of the day or choose from cereal and yogurt or a prepackaged muffin along with fruit/fruit juice and milk.
      • After the bell, elementary students can check into the office and get a breakfast pass for a grab-and-go cold breakfast.

    • Lunch
      • Students can choose between a hot lunch option (changes daily), a cold lunch option, and a yogurt/granola and string cheese entree kit. 
        • Students can also choose a hot vegetable, cold fruits and vegetables, and their choice of milk (skim, skim chocolate, or 1%).
        • All items will be individually packaged, and students will pick the meal they would like as they go through the line (no preordering).
      • To receive the meal free of charge, students must select at least one fruit or vegetable and two other items.
        • Milk purchased individually is 50 cents per carton. 
      • Students bringing lunch from home can supplement their meal with fruits, veggies, and milk (at least three items) from the cafeteria line.

    Secondary

    • Breakfast
      • Breakfast is served in the cafeteria from 30 minutes before the start of the school day until the first bell.
      • Students can choose the hot breakfast option of the day or choose from cereal and yogurt or a prepackaged muffin along with fruit/fruit juice and milk.
      • Check with your school's cafeteria or office for more information about after-the-bell breakfast options.

    • Lunch
      • Students will have several options available each day to build a custom lunch in our cafeteria lines. All food items will be individually packaged or wrapped.
        • Students will pick the meal they would like as they go through the line (no preordering).
      • To receive the meal free of charge, students must select at least one fruit or vegetable and two other items.
        • Milk purchased individually is 50 cents per carton. 
      • Students bringing lunch from home can supplement their meal with fruits, veggies, and milk (at least three items) from the cafeteria line.

  • Diet Modification Form

    If your child has a disability or life-threatening food allergy as determined by a licensed physician and this prevents the child from eating regular school meals, we will make substitutions prescribed by the licensed physician at no extra charge for the meal. Special diet orders will be honored until an updated form is completed or a statement from the physician discontinuing the order has been received. It is no longer necessary to provide documentation on an annual basis. Send the completed form to:
