The WDMCS Transportation Department strives to serve the needs of our students and to provide safe, efficient transportation to school and school-related activities.

School District Boundaries
The West Des Moines Community Schools covers 36.6 square miles. District boundaries are irregular but generally lie north of Warren and Madison county lines, south of Urbandale Avenue, east of the Dallas County line, and west of 63rd Street.
Free, Pay, Walk Zone Information
WDMCS offers bus transportation to families who live in either a free zone or pay zone of the student's designated school. Some areas are considered a walk zone, and bus transportation is not available. To learn more, please refer to Board Policy 710.02, which details student eligibility for busing. Contact the Transportation Department at 515-633-4902 to confirm which zone you live in.
Free Zone Details
- WDMCS students in grades K-8 who live more than two miles from the school designated for attendance will be provided FREE transportation.
- WDMCS students in grades 9-12 who live more than three miles from the school designated for attendance will be provided FREE transportation.
Pay Zone Details
Students who are not eligible for free transportation and live outside the walk zone of their assigned school can purchase bus passes.
Walk Zone Details
Each school has a designated area around the school called the walk zone where bus service is not available.
Need a Replacement Bus Pass?
Please complete the form linked below to request a new bus pass for your student. Each new bus pass is $10. This will be added as a fee to your student's account within InTouch once the request is processed by Transportation. Sacred Heart students' requests will be invoiced separately.Students can pick up their new bus pass at their school office within 1-2 business days of the request.
