Student Screening
-
Screening for the WDMCS Gifted/Talented (GT) Program may be initiated by a teacher, parents/guardians, or student at any time of the school year. Students may be identified in grades K-12 for various levels of service for the following abilities: general intellectual, specific academic in core content areas, creative thinking, visual or performing arts, and leadership.

The committee that reviews the information meets three times throughout the school year. Multiple criteria are examined to determine students in need of additional differentiation through our Gifted/Talented (GT) Program. Data required for student screening includes: parent/guardian survey, teacher survey, student questionnaire, CogAT scores, Iowa Assessments scores, and any other relevant data determined by a member of the GT team.
Comprehensive screening happens in the WDMCS during third grade and sixth grade. Please watch for more information about screening during the school year.
To begin the process, please contact the GT teacher at your student’s school.
The WDMCS will continue to study screening tools that allow for appropriate screening of students who are culturally and linguistically diverse, from various socio-economic statuses, and with disabilities.
The district shall accept scores on assessment instruments provided by other school districts for screening purposes. The district will then proceed with WDMCS identification instruments to determine service needs.
