West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) offers numerous support opportunites for your student's academic success. The following listing includes both district and community tutoring resources.
WDMCS Tutoring Resources
The following resources are provided directly through the district.
Valley High School Academic Resource
Academic resource is designed for students needing to make up work or to acquire special help. Academic resource is available daily 7–7:45 a.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon. It is located in the Media Center, and is staffed by Valley teachers.
The tutor directory is provided as a resource for West Des Moines Community Schools students and parents.
Instructions for Viewing Directory
The directory is categorized by elementary, junior high, and high school tutors. Each tutor includes contact information, hourly rates, and subjects tutored.
Become a Tutor
If you are interested in being listed in the Community Education Tutor Directory, please complete one of the following applications.
The WDMCS certified staff application should only be completed by certified staff who are employed by the district.
The general tutor application should be completed by certified staff who do not work for WDMCS or by other individuals who wish to tutor.

Community Tutoring Resources
The following resources are not district sponsored, but are additional options for families to consider.
ConneXionsTutoring is a free online tutoring website run by high achieving high school students. It was created to alleviate some of the stresses of academics due to COVID-19, by providing free tutoring services for students in grades K-12. Students and parents can sign up by clicking on our Sign Up page and selecting a meeting time with their preferred tutor.
Homework Helper Hotline
The Homework Helper Hotline is an educational support service available to any Polk, Dallas or Warren County K-12th grade student. The service provides quick homework help to callers in need of guidance outside of regular school hours. Individuals must call 211 and press menu option 7* to get connected to a Homework Helper.
Sunday through Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m.
*Menu Option 7 is only available during the times the homeworker helper is available.
LearningExpress provides tests, tutorials, and eBooks on a variety of subjects. You can use your local library card to register.
March2Success provides an online study program to help students prepare for standardized tests, improve school work and review materials. We also provide tools for educators and parents to track and encourage their students.
Study Point provides free virtual practice tests for ACT or SAT exams.
