West Des Moines Public Library Reopens June 15 with Safeguards in Place
A Message from the West Des Moines Public Library:
The West Des Moines Public Library will reopen to limited walk-in traffic at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 15, with altered hours and some temporary changes to rules and procedures in place.
The reopening of the library, located at 4000 Mills Civic Parkway in West Des Moines, will mark the first time the general public has been inside the building since mid-March, when the COVID-19 pandemic was declared a public health emergency by federal, state and local officials. Since then, library services have been offered to the public via telephone, social media and curbside holds pickup.
Hours for Building Access
- 9-10 a.m.—vulnerable population or immunocompromised user priority
- 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—general public-walk-in
- 2-4 p.m.—closed to the public for building sanitation
- 4-7 p.m.—general public walk-in
Friday & Saturday
- 10 a.m. to 2p.m.
All staff in public areas will also be wearing cloth masks for the protection of other staff and the public.
“We are looking forward to making the building available to the citizens of West Des Moines again,” said library director Darryl Eschete. “We want to put the ‘public’ back in public library.”
