Shelly Pospeshil Named New Clive Learning Academy Director
West Des Moines Community Schools is excited to share that Shelly Pospeshil will serve as director of Clive Learning Academy starting July 1, following Board of Education approval on May 11. She will begin her new position on July 1.
Pospeshil has been an elementary principal in the Des Moines Public School District (DMPS) for six years. Before that, she served Johnston Community Schools as a Literacy, Social Studies, English for Speakers of Other Languages, and Title I coordinator. She also served DMPS as a school improvement leader and the Ankeny Community School District as a literacy leader and teacher. She previously taught in Texas and was a coordinator of six Texas magnet schools.
References indicate Pospeshil’s strong curricular and instructional knowledge. She has expertise in data analysis and supporting teachers to impact student learning using that data. Passionate and engaged, Pospeshil embeds herself into her school communities. With a strong mindset surrounding equity, she works to build collaborative cultures and relationships that lead to improvement. She supports high levels of school engagement from families and staff, as well as the community; she has often worked with community partners to provide new opportunities for students. Pospeshil earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary and art education from Iowa State University and a master’s degree in education management from the University of Houston.
