Valley Speech Records 2 Critic’s Choice Awards At IHSSA All-State Festival

The Valley High School large-group speech program competed at the Iowa High School Speech Association’s annual all-state festival on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Iowa State Center in Ames.

Valley earned two Critic’s Choice awards following the day’s performances. The Critic’s Choice is selected by a professional in the specific field as the top performer in the state in that performance area for 2020.

  • Solo Mime: “The Eagle Huntress: A Soaring Tale of Trust and Companionship”
    Directed by: Amanda Pichler. Performer: Isabella Ksiazak.
  • Musical Theatre: “Sweeney Todd”
    Stage Manager: Isabel Lewis. Performers: Eric Amundson, Lanie Anthan, Connor Barnes, Ella Bishop, Chloe Edwards, Drew Peterson, Jack Renda, Mary Thomas.

Additionally, Valley earned the E. Wayne Cooley Sweepstakes Award, which is given to the school with the most performing entries at the all-state competition. This year, Valley had 15 performing nominations.
