Homecoming 2019: Sept. 23-28

Homecoming 2019 is right around the corner and will include activities for our schools, WDMCS families, and the entire community. This year’s Homecoming theme is “Living on Cloud 9.”

Community Events

  • Monday, Sept. 23: Powderpuff football game (7:30 p.m. at Valley Stadium)
  • Thursday, Sept. 26: Parade (5:45 p.m.)
  • Thursday, Sept. 26: Barbecue and Tiger Carnival (6:15 p.m. in Valley Stadium north parking lot. Proceeds will benefit Orchard Place.)
  • Friday, Sept. 27: Homecoming football game vs. Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson (7 p.m. at Valley Stadium)

Important Note About This Year’s Parade

The parade will still form in the parking lot at Valley Southwoods. However, this year’s route will travel from Valley Southwoods to South 35th Street, to the frontage road of the Learning Resource Center and West Des Moines Public Library, and in the Valley Stadium north parking lot.

Dress Up Days

  • Monday, Sept. 23: Rainy/Snowy (Pajama Day)
  • Tuesday, Sept. 24: Tropical Storm (Beach Day)
  • Wednesday, Sept. 25: Rainbow (Class Color Day; Seniors—Red, Juniors—Yellow, Sophomores—Green, Freshmen—Blue, Staff—Purple)
  • Thursday, Sept. 26: Sunny (Neon Day)
  • Friday, Sept. 27: Storm Warning (Spirit Day)

Homecoming Dance

  • Saturday, Sept. 28: 8-11 p.m. at Hy-Vee Hall, downtown Des Moines
  • Tickets: $10 each. Buy during lunch at Valley and Valley Southwoods Sept. 25-27 or at the door the night of the dance.
  • Bringing a date from a different school? Turn in an approval form by 4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25. Guest from a Different School | Valley Graduate Guest
  • Attire: No jeans, hats, chains, canes, athletic wear/jerseys, or costumes.
  • Extra help: Parent volunteers are still needed to sell tickets and to help chaperone the dance. Shifts are from 7:45-9:30 p.m. and 9:30-11:15 p.m. Detailed instructions will be provided. Dressing up is optional, but please wear comfortable shoes. Sign up.

Homecoming Court

Valley and Valley Southwoods students will vote during advisory the week of Homecoming. The king and queen will be announced at halftime of the Homecoming football game.
