Valley Stadium Elevator Construction Creates Alternative Access for Guests
Over the summer months, Valley Stadium underwent several construction projects to support students’ and fans’ safety. While most projects are complete for Valley High School’s opening home football game on Friday, Sept. 6, against Dowling Catholic, the stadium elevator is not yet in working order.
However, West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) has developed a short-term adjustment for parking to accommodate guests’ needs.
Guests with handicap stickers or license plates can park in the north lot. Enter from Mills Civic Parkway. Security personnel will direct drivers where to park. If the north lot fills, additional handicap parking spaces are available in the west lot. However, we recommend guests needing a handicapped parking spot to arrive early to access the north lot. Drivers who are dropping off guests will be directed to a drop-off lane.
The north entrance will provide easy ramp access to restrooms, concessions, and both visitor and home seating. Guests who require ramp access over stairs should enter Valley Stadium through the north entrance.
In addition to the elevator construction, Valley Stadium features new ticket booths, renovated home restrooms, new LED field lighting, and new artificial field turf.
“The old turf had reached the end of its life cycle and was replaced and upgraded to provide improved safety for our student athletes,” said Christine Maduro, director of operations at WDMCS. “The three-layer system selected for this installation is the premium product currently available for player safety and surface conditions playability.”
