This year, 73 students from participating Iowa schools auditioned for the Triple Threat Award. The students were invited to audition based on the strength of their performances in their school musical production in a role. Students auditioned, rehearsed with Broadway veterans, and received private coaching from local university faculty in the days leading up to the IHSMTA Showcase.the

As a Triple Threat Award recipient, Strelecki will represent Iowa at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards in New York City, June 17-24. He will attend a nine-day Broadway intensive with private coaching, master classes, and rehearsals with theater professionals. The experience will culminate in a final performance at the Jimmy Awards on June 24 at the Minskoff Theatre, home to Disney’s “The Lion King” on Broadway.

The Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards are produced by the Des Moines Performing Arts non-profit organization as the culmination of a year-long education initiative. A livestream of the showcase is available online from Iowa Public Television, which will also air a highlight special of the event at 8:30 p.m. on June 28 on IPTV.1.
