Valley Custodian Alan Carlsborg Earns 2019 Impact Award

Valley High School custodian Alan Carlsborg has earned a 2019 Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards (IHSMTA) Impact Award for his impact on Valley High School’s drama department and high school musical theater in Iowa. Carlsborg is one of just three Impact Award recipients this year and will be recognized at the IHSMTA Showcase at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 3, at the Des Moines Civic Center.

The Impact Award recognizes educators and community members who go above and beyond to support the high school musical theater experience. Student nominations and testimonials from colleagues, parents, and administrators were reviewed to determine this year’s honored recipients. Carlsborg was nominated by Valley Principal David Maxwell, Athletics & Activities Director Brad Rose, drama director Stacy Hansen, assistant drama director Linda Crose, vocal music teacher Haley Gibbons, and the Valley drama president and officers.

“Alan Carlsborg is one of the most absolute reasons we can call the Valley Drama Department our second family,” the student nomination essay read. “Family takes care of one another, supports each other, and make sure to stick around for one another at all times. Alan, without any expectation for equivalent reward, takes care of us—our Valley Drama Family.”

Congratulations and thank you to Mr. Carlsborg!

The Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards are produced by the Des Moines Performing Arts non-profit organization as the culmination of a year-long education initiative. Tickets to the showcase start at $15 and can be purchased online, at the Civic Center Ticket Office, and by phone at 515-246-2300.

The Awards Showcase will also be live-streamed at IPTV.org as part of a collaboration with Iowa Public Television. IPTV will air a highlight special of the evening later this summer.
