Valley’s “Tuck Everlasting” Earns 19 Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards

The Valley High School Performing Arts Department production of “Tuck Everlasting” has earned 19 Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards. This is the highest number of Iowa High School Musical Theater awards (IHSMTA) Valley High School has won since first participating in the awards in 2014-15.  Valley and 76 other Iowa schools will participate in the IHSMTA Showcase at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 3, at the Des Moines Civic Center.

Select students will represent Valley High School by performing in a collaborative inter-school medley led by a guest Broadway music director and choreographer. Seniors Rachel Forney, Claire Sattler, and Cole Strelecki and junior Jacob Soto will also audition for the opportunity to represent Iowa at the National High School Musical Theater Awards in New York City this summer as part of the Triple Threat Award program.

The Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards are produced by the Des Moines Performing Arts non-profit organization as the culmination of a year-long education initiative. The Awards Showcase will also be live-streamed at IPTV.org as part of a collaboration with Iowa Public Television. IPTV will air a highlight special of the evening later this summer.
