WDMCS Community Education, Valley Students Observe Sept. 11 Day of Remembrance
The West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) Community Education Department and Valley High School’s The Young America’s Foundation school chapter are providing the district community opportunities to remember the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001, and take part in the National Day of Service and Remembrance.
Thank You Cards for Veterans
WDMCS Community Education is collecting cards for those who have served in the military from Sept. 11-24. The kind words of appreciation will be shared with military veterans while they are honored at upcoming Veterans Day observances, including during a free breakfast at Hy-Vee and other local business partners.
WDMCS Community Education encourages district families to be part of the movement to transform Sept. 11 from a day a tragedy into a day of doing good. Drop cards off at your school office or at the Learning Resource Center, 3550 Mills Civic Parkway, West Des Moines, anytime through Sept. 24.
Sept. 11 Never Forget Project
Student members of Valley High School’s The Young America’s Foundation school chapter placed one small American flag across Valley campus grounds for each innocent life lost. Although this is not an official school-sponsored event, Valley administration supports the desire of these students to recognize the impact of the Sept. 11 attacks. Even though most of the students were not even born when the attacks occurred, each student understands the lasting impact it has had on our country and the world.
Students are asked to not disturb the flags. The flags will be taken down later in the week.
