WDMCS Welcomes Four New School Administrators
West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) welcomes four new school administrators for the 2018-19 school year. Two new leaders will join the district as associate principals at Valley High School. Current Associate Principal David Maxwell was selected to replace Principal Tim Miller who retired in June. An additional associate principal role was added at Valley for the coming school year to realign job responsibilities. Valley Southwoods Freshman High School and Stilwell Junior High will also welcome new associate principals.
Jill Bryson is New Valley High School Associate Principal
Bryson began her career in the health sciences and soon found she loved to work with students. She started teaching in 2003 with Gwinnett County Public Schools in Georgia. After moving back to the Midwest, she was a high school science educator in Woodward-Granger. In 2011, Bryson became the coordinator of alternative education at Lewis Central High School in Council Bluffs. She has served as an administrator in Council Bluffs and Des Moines.
Bryson graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids with degrees in psychobiology and athletic training. She went on to receive a Master of Science degree in sports medicine: athletic training in 1996 from Georgia State University, and an additional Master of Arts degree in educational leadership and policy studies from the University of Iowa in 2011.
Jeff Grassmeyer, Ph.D., is New Valley High School Associate Principal
Grassmeyer previously taught statistics for the Waukee Community School District. He also served as a mathematics curriculum lead for three years in Waukee as well as serving as a math interventionist.
Grassmeyer obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in secondary mathematics education and a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary teacher education in 2010 from Drake University. He received his Master of Science degree in education leadership in 2014 from Drake University and earned his doctorate in education from Drake University in 2017.
Haley Henry is New Valley Southwoods Freshman High School Associate Principal
Henry worked at Southeast Polk Schools for the past six years as an English teacher, coach, attendance dean, and teacher leader. She also substituted for various administrators in the district and has held multiple leadership roles.
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in secondary English education in 2012 and attained her Master of Science degree in education administration in 2017 from Iowa State University. Henry began the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) program in Southeast Polk Schools.
Alex Dreier is New Stilwell Junior High Assistant Principal
Dreier received his Bachelor of Arts degree in secondary English education from Iowa State University in 2010. He completed his Master of Science degree in education leadership from Drake University in 2017. He also has experience in establishing high-quality Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) programs.
