Students Fees Set for 2018-19
The West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) Board of Education unanimously approved students fees for 2018-19, with no changes to student fees from the 2017-18 year. The only change to fees for 2018-19 will be a 10-cent increase for adult breakfast and adult lunch.
At the April 23 School Board meeting, Chief Financial Officer Paul Bobek explained that, through the National Student Lunch Program, the district is required to review adult meal prices annually to ensure federal reimbursements for students do not supplement the adult prices. This review led to the 10-cent increase for adults meals for 2018-19.
WDMCS will collect school-related fees, transportation fees, and breakfast/lunch account payments for the upcoming school year from August 1 to October 1. Pre-payments for the upcoming year are not allowed as they cannot be assigned to a student account until after July.
The change will allow families time to complete and submit free and reduced-priced fee applications before billing occurs. The state does not provide its annual income guidelines for free and reduced-priced fee applications until July.
Families will be able to check their fee balance at any time after August 1 using their online account or by contacting the WDMCS Business Services Department at 515-633-5077.
