Life in the WDMCS 5/18/15
Life in the WDMCS is a weekly feature that highlights what is happening at each of our buildings. If a school is not listed, there was no submission from that building this week.
West Des Moines Community Schools sixth-grade students are preparing for the Dick Bittner Sixth-Grade Memorial Track Meet, to take place Tuesday, May 19, at the Valley High School track. They are practicing for individual running and relay events, the long jump, discus, shot put and javelin field events. Twenty-seven sixth-grade classes will compete against each other at the annual meet.
Forty-eight Valley Southwoods Freshman High School students were recognized at the Tigers of the Month Breakfast on Friday, May 15. Six students are recognized as Tigers of the Month each month, then all the students are recognized at the breakfast ceremony, attended by their parents. Students are selected by administrators after being nominated by teachers. The award is given to students who demonstrate a good attitude, compassion, empathy, courage, loyalty, tolerance, self-control, respect and gratitude. Tim Miller, Valley High School principal, was a guest speaker at the ceremony.
