WDMCS Receives National Awards for Logos and Website

news-nspra-awardsWest Des Moines Community Schools has received Awards of Excellence for its new website and activity logos in the 2013 National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) Publications and Electronic Media Contest.

“We are honored to receive these awards, but the true benefit is that our community receives the news and information they seek on an easy-to-use website and now have visual symbols that represent the pride in our schools,” said Director of School/Community Relations Elaine Watkins-Miller.

There were 80 entries in the website category with just seven school districts across the nation receiving an Award of Excellence. Entries are judged on clarity of writing, appropriateness and freshness of content, graphic presentation, ease of use and download time.

“The website has been a labor of love and I am thrilled that it is being recognized,” said Jamie Evans, district webmaster. “Our work along with Flying Hippo Web Technologies produced a site that we all can be proud of.”

In the publications contest, there were 679 entries with 125 receiving an Award of Excellence, just 12 of them in the Branding/Image Package category. Entries in the Branding/Image Package category are judged for creativity, consistency, unity, graphic design, clarity and overall image.

“We are so excited to have the hard work on our new logos recognized,” said Lauri Pyatt, district school/community relations specialist. “The students and staff had great ideas during the design process and it shows in the final product. Thank you to the Valley Booster Club for their collaboration on this project and to (c)3 Marketing for all of their expertise.”

The district also received an Iowa School Public Relations Association (ISPRA) Blue and Gold Award as best in the state for the activity logos and tied for the honor on the website in April.

The NSPRA Publications and Electronic Media Awards contest is open to all public or private schools or districts, including special schools such as vocational-technical institutes; regional or county education service agencies; education agencies; and private businesses serving as partners with those organizations. Entries are judged according to the publication category and type and size of district/organization.

The NSPRA is a professional organization dedicated to building support and trust for education through responsible public relations that leads to success for all students.
