Administrators Take on New Roles, Return
There are some new faces and changes in ranks in the district’s administrative team this year that we are excited to introduce to you.
Carol Seid was named interim associate superintendent of human resources. The position became available after Dr. Lisa Remy was appointed interim superintendent. Seid had served as principal of Fairmeadows Elementary since 2006. Seid started her career in education in 1987 as an elementary special education teacher in the Des Moines Public School District. She later became an elementary vice-principal in the Des Moines district in 2001 and a principal in 2002. Seid has her bachelor’s degree in elementary education, master’s degree in special education and is currently working on her doctorate in educational leadership.
With Seid being named interim associate superintendent of human resources, the Board approved Dr. Nancy Moorhead as the interim principal of Fairmeadows Elementary.
Moorhead retired as principal of Jordan Creek Elementary in 2012, where she had served since 1999. She started her career in education as an elementary special education teacher at Bellevue Elementary in Bellevue, Iowa. She also served as a middle school special education teacher at Woodside Middle School and elementary teacher at Cornell Elementary, both in the Saydel Community School District. She later served as an elementary and middle school principal in the Durant Community School District. Moorhead earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary special educations from the University of Iowa, her mater’s degree in education administration from Iowa State University and her doctorate in education administration with an emphasis in special education law and school finance from the University of Iowa.
Kerry Ketcham, interim director of special education, has served as associate principal/activities director of Indian Hills Junior High since 2006. He started his career in education in 1985 as a secondary social studies teacher in the Des Moines Public School District. He became a dean of students in the Des Moines district in 2005 and joined the WDMCS administrative team in 2006. Kerry has his bachelor’s degree in history, master’s degree in educational leadership and his ESL leadership endorsement.
Eric Boyle will be joining the Stilwell Junior High staff as the building’s new assistant principal beginning with the new school year. Boyle had previously served as a team leader at Valley Southwoods Freshman High School. As Stilwell’s new assistant principal, Boyle brings administrative experience and a background in special needs and athletics/activities.
Zac Sinram, assistant principal at Indian Hills, received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 2006 in history and social studies and his master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Iowa in 2012. He began teaching at Valley Southwoods as a special education teacher in 2006 and then moved to teaching social studies at VSW in 2008. Zac has also been involved in both building- and district-level professional development work, including serving as an Authentic Intellectual Work (AIW) anchor and serving on the Professional Learning Communities committee. He has also participated in principles training through the West Des Moines Police Department’s Youth Justice Initiative (YJI).
