Board Hires Remy as Interim Superintendent

The West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) Board of Education has unanimously approved hiring current WDMCS Associate Superintendent Dr. Lisa Remy as Interim Superintendent subject to negotiation and approval of her employment contract.

During a special meeting this morning (May 22), the Board interviewed Remy, as well as Hillside Elementary Principal Dr. Robert Davis. Board President Elizabeth Brennan thanked each candidate for offering to serve the district in this manner, noting they were both excellent candidates.

“Dr. Remy’s district-level experience will help us continue moving forward efficiently and effectively,” Brennan said. “The Board and I look forward to working with her in the coming months.”

Brennan said the next step will be to determine the details of Remy’s contract.  The district will also consider how to temporarily fill Dr. Remy’s current position as Associate Superintendent of Human Resources.

Remy earned her bachelor’s degree in education, master’s degree in Spanish teaching, Superintendent’s certification and doctorate degree in educational administration from the University of Northern Iowa. She began her career in education as a Spanish teacher at Hudson Community Schools in Hudson, Iowa. She later served as high school Principal at Hudson. She came to the WDMCS in 2000, serving as Associate Principal at Valley High School. She served as Principal of Indian Hills Junior High for four years before taking her current position as Associate Superintendent of Human Resources in 2006.
