WDMCS and Community Education Win Best in Category

PrintWest Des Moines Community Schools and WDMCS Community Education earned Blue and Gold Awards for best entry in a category at the annual Iowa School Public Relations Association Communications Contest Awards Night April 18. WDMCS was awarded for its new activity logos, new website and the printed school calendar, while Community Education was lauded for its An Opportunity for Everyone brochure

Judges comments for the activity logos were, “Comprehensive document (identity guide) with clear intent.”

Comments for the website were, “Loved the front page graphics. The website is also very easy to navigate.”

Comments on the calendar included, “Very thorough information parents need to know. Especially liked the explanation of collaboration schedules. Good artwork – love that it is by students.”

Comments for Community Education’s brochure were, “Beautiful piece! Many messages are presented clearly for designated audiences.”

The district received Awards of Excellence in the categories of social media for the district’s Facebook and Twitter efforts as well as the category of electronic media for the district’s “Preparing Learners for Life” video. Awards of Merit were received for the district’s Idea Share postcard in the category of special purpose publication and for the Informaline in the printed newsletter category. Community Education received an Award of Merit for its new identity system in the image/logo changes category.

School community relations professionals from around the state submit their work for multiple categories to the contest each year. This year, the entries were scored by school professionals from Arizona. Entries are scored for design, clarity, quality in writing, overall effect and evaluation. Based on the scores, the entries receive an Award of Merit or an Award of Excellence with the highest scoring entry in each category receiving the Blue and Gold Award.
