WDMCS Hires Paul Bobek as Next CFO

The West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) is pleased to announce Paul Bobek as its next Chief Financial Officer (CFO) starting July 1.

“This is a very significant time for us in the West Des Moines Community Schools, particularly with the many construction projects we have underway,” said WDMCS Superintendent Dr. Peter Ansingh. “I am confident that Paul will do an outstanding job for the West Des Moines Community Schools, helping us meet our community’s high standards for project management, fiscal responsibility and reporting.”

Bobek has served in a school financial leadership position for the past 19 years.  He served as the Executive Director of Business Affairs for the Bettendorf Community School District from 1993-2002.  Following his time at Bettendorf, Bobek spent nine years as the Executive Director of Administrative Services for the Iowa City Community School District.

In his previous school positions, Bobek was responsible for the finances, buildings and grounds, facilities construction, food service and transportation. Bobek has been an active member of the Iowa Association of School Business Officials (IASBO) as well as served on their board of directors.

“The West Des Moines Community Schools has a long history of excellence and I am honored and humbled to be selected to join the team,” Bobek said.

Prior to joining the public school setting, Bobek worked as an Accounting Supervisor for McGladrey and Pullen.  Bobek graduated from the University of Iowa in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.  In addition, he is a certified public accountant.

West Des Moines Community Schools Board of Education approved Bobek’s hiring at its June 11 meeting. Current CFO Kurt Subra is leaving the district to serve as CFO of Heartland AEA.
