Western Hills Elementary School first opened its doors on October
9, 1967, to 240 students and a staff of 16. The school consisted
of what is now our lower primary wing and housed eight classrooms
- a kindergarten, two first grades, three second grades and two
third grades. Lunch was served in the hallway and the special subject
teachers moved from classroom to classroom. Mr. Doyle Miller was
the Principal.
Phase 2 was completed in February of 1969 and included 8 additional
classrooms and a multipurpose room that served as a cafeteria and
gymnasium. In 1971, a media center and the upper grade pods with
six additional classrooms were added.
The most recent addition to Western Hills occurred in 1988/89 and
increased the square footage from 32,482 to 51,749 on a total of
14.5 acres and included: two kindergarten classrooms, computer lab,
vocal room, gymnasium, band/ strings room, office area, nurse's
office, teacher's lounge, lunchroom and bathrooms.
Western Hills has a proud history of high student achievement, strong
parental involvement and successful community participation. We
pride ourselves on knowing each child and encouraging every student
to reach their fullest potential.
Since its beginning, over 20,000 children have passed through the
doors of Western Hills, all with their eyes on the future - their
futures and that of the community and world.
